Internationally Exhibiting Artist Naomi Lautier (14) Makes Her Danish Gallery Debut

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Expiration Date: 400,000,000 Seconds marks the first gallery exhibition in Denmark by French artist Naomi Lautier, opening on 13 August 2026 at Galleri Bredgade 22.

Working across painting, collage and mixed media, Lautier has established an international exhibition profile at an unusually early stage in her career. Since 2023, she has presented solo exhibitions in Barcelona and Málaga, alongside exhibitions in Monaco, Venice and soon in Dubai. In 2024, she presented the solo museum exhibition 'The Beginning' at Museo de la Colección Ruso in Málaga.

At the heart of Expiration Date: 400,000,000 Seconds lies a deceptively simple question: Does time have an expiration date?

Through the interconnected series Witnesses, Rocking Horse and Forbidden Fruit, Lautier explores memory, perception and transformation, creating symbolic landscapes where recurring motifs become reflections on observation, desire and the cyclical nature of time. Rather than presenting time as linear, the works invite viewers to experience it as layered, emotional and constantly unfolding.

Several works, drawn from private collections, will be exhibited publicly for the first time. An integrated Augmented Reality (AR) layer extends the exhibition beyond the physical presentation, revealing connections between works and allowing visitors to explore the broader structure of each series.

"I paint time. It is difficult, because time, like the wind, can only be seen in the traces it leaves behind."
— Naomi Lautier

Lautier's neurodivergent perspective serves as a lens through which she looks at the world—an unfiltered, intuitive way of processing experience free from conventional social or visual filters. In her practice, this raw receptivity allows complex emotional states, memory, and symbolic structures to surface directly onto the canvas without dilution.

"The artists who shape tomorrow's cultural landscape are rarely the ones everyone is already talking about. Naomi Lautier is one of them. An emerging artist whose visual language already demonstrates an unusual depth, coherence, and clarity."
— Marina Scandi, Curator

Conceived by curator Marina Scandi as Season One of a new curatorial platform, Expiration Date: 400,000,000 Seconds is intentionally partial. Rather than presenting a definitive account, it marks the beginning of an evolving series in which each season brings different disciplines, media, and ways of experiencing the world into dialogue.

The exhibition is on view for six days only, from 13–18 August 2026, at Galleri Bredgade 22, Copenhagen.

The exhibition has been realised with the support of Jubilæumsfonden af 12.08.1973.

02 Biography

Naomi Lautier (b. 2011, Paris) is a French artist. She resides in Malaga, Spain.

Her journey began with an intuitive gesture, a spontaneous drawing that appeared on a fence. This early visual act unexpectedly attracted the attention of passersby and became the starting point of her artistic path. A few months later, one of her works was sold at auction at the Barcelona Royal Polo Club, a moment that marked the symbolic beginning of her public presence in the art world.

Naomi is a multidisciplinary artist with a neurodivergent perception of the world, which shapes a particular kind of visual sensitivity: direct, unfiltered, and intuitively precise. Her visual language blends figuration and abstraction, rich in symbolism and formal clarity, forming spaces for silence, inner transition, and reflection.

She has developed a distinctive style, a careful balance between visual purity, philosophical structure, and symbolic density. Rather than producing isolated artworks, she constructs bodies of work in which each painting functions both as an autonomous composition and part of a larger system.

What does it mean to expire?

Not only objects, bodies, or institutions, but memories, identities, certainties, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. Expiration Date: 400,000,000 Seconds unfolds as an exploration of time, not as chronology, but as lived experience. Here, time stretches, loops, fragments, and transforms, leaving traces rather than conclusions.

Naomi Lautier does not create isolated paintings; she constructs interconnected worlds. Working in carefully conceived series, each canvas functions as both an independent work and part of a larger visual ecosystem. Recurring figures, symbols, and motifs migrate across paintings, gathering new meanings as they reappear. Rather than offering a linear narrative, the exhibition invites viewers into a landscape where memory is fluid, identity remains unfinished, and every return reveals something previously unseen.

What defines Lautier's visual language is the precision with which craftsmanship and philosophical depth inform each other. Beneath the clarity of her compositions lies an intricate reflection on vulnerability, belonging, transformation, and the architecture of human experience. The longer you look, the more the images rearrange themselves around you.

The exhibition is centered around three interconnected series: Witnesses, Forbidden Fruit, and Rocking Horse. Selected paintings from each series are presented physically in the gallery, while the complete bodies of work unfold through the accompanying AR experience. While each series possesses its own visual grammar and emotional atmosphere, together they reveal a structural scaffolding, an Atlas of Series.

Witnesses is the exhibition's most meditative series. Working on silver and grey grounds of extraordinary restraint, Lautier traces the rat, recurring protagonist across her entire practice, through states of increasing dissolution. These are paintings about what survives attention, and what quietly disappears while we are looking elsewhere.

Forbidden Fruit is the exhibition's most chromatic and densely populated series, and in many ways its iconographic heart. Here Lautier's visual language is at its most abundant: ornamental pattern, cryptic inscription, suspended objects, cellular and botanical structures, the apple core in various states of consumption. If Witnesses asks what endures, Forbidden Fruit asks what we take in, what we consume, absorb, and are changed by, and whether the boundary between self and world is as stable as we assume.

Rocking Horse begins in recognisable form and ends in near-darkness. The titular motif, childhood object, perpetual motion that goes nowhere, establishes the series' central paradox: movement without progress, rhythm without destination. The emotional register is the most visceral of the three series, not melancholy exactly, but something closer to the feeling of watching something familiar become unrecognisable.

The title, Expiration Date: 400,000,000 Seconds, suggests both precision and uncertainty. A measurable unit becomes existential. Four hundred million seconds, approximately twelve and a half years, marks neither a beginning nor an end, but a threshold: enough time for a child to become an adolescent, for memories to soften, for identities to evolve, for entire inner worlds to be rebuilt. Time, here, is not something that passes; it is something that shapes us.

This exhibition does not ask to be understood all at once. It asks to be inhabited. As visitors move through Lautier's interconnected universes, they become participants in an unfolding dialogue between past and present, innocence and experience, certainty and ambiguity. There is a particular quality of attention these paintings require, not concentration, but patience. You do not decode them. You accumulate them. And at some point, without quite knowing when, you realise the images have started to think through you.

06 Atlas of Series

Atlas of Series

The Atlas of Series is not a catalogue of paintings but a cartography of thought. It charts relationships rather than chronology, revealing how figures, symbols, colours, and visual ideas migrate across distinct series, gathering new layers of meaning with every appearance. This fluid movement allows paintings separated by years to enter into an active, unfolding dialogue.

Witnesses

Silver and grey grounds of extraordinary restraint. The rat moves through states of increasing dissolution, where presence and absence become difficult to distinguish.

Forbidden Fruit

The most chromatic and densely populated series, returning to the consumed apple as fact rather than symbol. Ceremonial reds and blues meet acid clarity.

Rocking Horse

Begins in recognisable form and ends in near-darkness. Movement without progress, rhythm without destination.
